Knee pain can have a variety of sources, including bone spurs. When bone spurs occur in the knee, it can be quite annoying to say the least. Apparently, bone spurs just happen. Doctors do not have a good explanation for why they think I've asked. In my situation, it literally kept me on needles and pins. Caution: If you experience any persistent pain in the knees, always consult your doctor to determine cause.About five years ago, I spent several days on my knees staining and refinishing an oak floor. After that, when I knelt it felt like I was kneeling on needles and pins. I could tolerate the occasional pain, but in the Church, I was reminded weekly. My orthopedic took X-rays and pointed out several bone spurs on the back of each patella. He said that there was not much he could do, and it would ultimately finish my race. Oh joy! Being the adventurous type, I bought a bottle of joint supplement containing glucosamine HCl and Boswellia. To my surprise, it took away needles and pins in about a week. I could kneel again. I was healed!
When the bottle was finished, I stopped taking it to make sure the supplement actually worked. After a week, returned. The needles and pins glucosamine and boswellia helped, but did my joints feel "loose" even "smooth", so I wanted to try something else. A colleague said her friend's husband could not function without the MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane) for his collections. I tried the MSM, it worked, and my joints felt more normal.I asked my podiatrist about MSM. Oddly, he replied, "What is it?" It surprised me that he was not aware of other supplements his patients could take to help with part pain.Currently I take a supplement that contains glucosamine and MSM (1500 mg each, one tablet per day). I can kneel and currently run about 10 miles a week. To date, needles and pins not returned. Several times I landed hard on my knees and the resulting pain reminds me of that bone spurs are still there, waiting. Maybe in the future I may need to up my dosage or try other products containing chondroitin to keep bone spurs in check. Until then, I'll stick with what works for me
